How come that has the gauges with the shiny chrome rings? mine has the black and boring rings on my gauges...

someone has changed them or it was optioned/changed from the factory.

gauges with the shiny chrome rings from 1991/10 to 1995/12 got them
1996/01 to 2000/9 black
2000/10 to 2002/8 got chrome
so its all about the month of your car from japan not in australia

Yeah, this car was built on 12 May 2000.

Possibly been changed somewhere along the way ('cos chrome is way cooler) , as Jim said.

No, Ric mentioned in the first post that the car comes with the Japanese and Oz service history.

I know from my own car that the Japanese service records are very thorough, and it's easy to follow even though it's in a foreign language....they use lots of symbols and numbers.

It's possible the car was even supplied by the dealer this way (dash rings changed at the dealership).
