Most FD owners use a hardpipe replacement for the stock rubber intercooler hose because they are notorious for cracking and splitting. A few companies make these including FEED and Still Way but the TRUST GReddy one should be the cheapest option. I personally will go with the 2 piece kit to save money. There's also a three piece kit but you will probably replace the last black plastic pipe leading to your intercooler when upgrading to an aftermarket SMIC.

I'm not sure if it fits all FDs but I believe someone on this forum who had it installed will give you an answer soon. According to RHDJapan there was a minor change made in 1996. Click here (http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm-low/TRUST-Greddy-Compression-Tube-Hard-Piping-Kit-FD3S-13B-REW-15693)!

Oh! That one is the three piece kit. Postage should be included in the price already. The link was just to show you that there might have been a minor change made to the FD in 1996. Once you know which one you want you may have to shop around. I agree the rx7store one is quite reasonably priced.

The Greddy kit with the added extension pipe seems good value at $199.00

This Greddy 2 piece pipe kit replaces the stock elbow leading into the throttle body. This kit also contains another section of piping designed to mate the elbow to the stock intercooler and most aftermarket units. http://www.rx7store.net/v/vspfiles/templates/1/images/clear1x1.gifhttp://www.rx7store.net/v/vspfiles/templates/1/images/clear1x1.gif http://www.rx7store.net/v/vspfiles/templates/1/images/clear1x1.gifhttp://www.rx7store.net/v/vspfiles/templates/1/images/DBox_Border_Left_MidDiv.gifhttp://www.rx7store.net/v/vspfiles/templates/1/images/clear1x1.gifhttp://www.rx7store.net/v/vspfiles/templates/1/images/DBox_Border_Right_MidDiv.gifhttp://www.rx7store.net/v/vspfiles/templates/1/images/clear1x1.gifFeatures

Kit contains the elbow and extension pipe. Does not include the "S" pipe.

Thanks for the reply guys may even get Ben from Rotary motorsports to fabricate one up for me :cool:cannot be too hard he can use the plastic one as a template :D rather give him my $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ than it going overseas .:)

As you pointed out its in US Dollars + cost of shipping and waiting so local may be the way to go depending on cost .

Just remember...the hard plastic pipe flows as well, if not better than the greddy unit (Greddy unit has an extra join, which creates turbulence, and it doesnt increase the capacity, or decrease the bend radius)
As such, your probably better off retaining the plastic hard pipe, and just replacing the convoluted tubing pipes into and out of the SMIC.

If your after improving performance either aftermarket custom, or the HKS pipes are the way to go.
1 x HKS replaces the ENTIRE run of the plastic hard pipe (Same length) and increases capacity of the pipe, and mildly improves flow.
Other HKS is the short elbow from the Vmount kit, that changes the angle out of the throttle body, decreasing turbulence, and helping laminar flow. However, this is not suitable for the SMIC as the pipework gets directed down the side of the car, instead of across the top of the engine.

If I kept the SMIC I would try for the HKS long pipe (Discontinued..and VERY hard to get now), coupled with the hard pipe kit from Greddy...OR some clones of the above :)
