RX7 Series 8 Type R Bathurst.
Year: 2002
Transmission: Manual
Odo: 97800km (done about 22k km in 3.5 years)
Colour: Innocent Blue Mica
Location: Casula (near Liverpool) - western Sydney
Rego: Good till mid September 2013
Pros:
1. Has Andymac’s old engine i.e. Rick Shaw mild port, PTS seals etc.
2. Both turbo’s have been rebalanced and the secondary has a new shaft/turbine wheel. The original turbine decided it didn’t like eating a apex seal back in 2011 when the original donk let go.
3. Used Power FC with new hand controller. Base map has been modified by Scott from Insight Motorsport.
4. 3 inch cat back exhaust from Turbo Exhaust in Smithfield. Has twin tips and looks a lot like stock. Doesn’t drone during cruise and has a nice burble on idle. Have the stock exhaust at home and will throw it into the deal.
5. Changed the clutch about 10k km ago. Exedy unit with higher clamping load then stock crap.
6. 17 inch Ray’s Engineering wheels – not sure what design. BBS mesh look-a-likes. Also have Federal rubber all round - 235 front and 255 at the back. Also have the stocker’s at home and will throw them into the deal.
7. Front guards are lipped.
8. Replaced the oil injectors, plastic lines and grommets when I slotted Andymac’s motor in.
9. New brake pads and discs machined - all round
10. Aluminium vacuum tank replaces stock plastic tank. Nipple snapped off when I was replacing the hoses and didn't want to put another plastic unit back in.
11. Changed all the hoses that go to/from the boost box. Also changed the 4 vacuum 1-way valves as well.
12. Changed the power steer and alternator belts
13. Resprayed rear guards and roof. Car came with a heap of scratches and dents when I imported it from Japan back in 2009. Mr Dentbuster and my smash repairer took care of those. That was done end of 2011.
14. Stock suspension uses Bilstein’s with adjustable platforms. Haven’t ever touched them though.
15. Has a decent alarm/immobiliser.
16. I change the oil every 5k km and use synthetic.
Cons:
1. Has Andymac’s old engine i.e. Rick Shaw mild port, PTS seals etc. Some people would call this engine a liability :)
2. Had some cooling issues recently i.e. low coolant buzzer would turn on in the morning after I gave the car a good work over the night before. Turned out the line that goes to the overflow tank in the guard was left disconnected from the AST. A oversight during the installation of Andymac’s engine. All fixed now and the car sits on mid 80s (degrees) on cruise and the low coolant buzzer hasn’t turned on since. I’ve put the stock AST back on but had a yank unit (fighter’s garage?) prior to that. Took it out when chasing the coolant issue as I thought it was causing the problem. Can’t be bothered putting it back in but will make it part of the deal.
3. Has a strange tendency to idle at 1200 rpm every once in a while (stock ecu and Power FC both do it). Settles back down to 850rpm if you activate the Electrical Load box by using an input i.e. turn head lights on, use power steer pump, turn on air con etc. Never been able to sort it out to my satisfaction.
4. Glove box hinge is busted and a new assembly might be needed.
Pics: Can’t be farked but if somebody really needs to see pics I’ll get some. Just imagine a blue mica series 8 with BBS-mesh looking wheels.
Price: I’m looking for around $23k. But I’ll move on that if I see the potential buyer is a decent chap/lady.
