Im putting these back up for sale guys. They have a problem with them but I dont know what... :(

When they left me they were fine and in perfect working order. I had them tested last year when I bought them and again back in May when they were fitted to a mates car for a couple of weeks. So in the time they came off and were shipped to Alan, something must have happened.

Alan took them to a suspension specialist who said they were dead and Alan also uploaded a video for me to see > YouTube - FEED Coilovers Bouncing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpuNginag-Q)

I emailed Feed USA and they said the shocks do not fail together. These are GAS shocks that would require re-filling at a suspension specialist. The likelihood of them all failing simultaneously is very very low. The gas inside dissipates over time and would require refilling to be able to run the suspension at the correct setting. I have now emailed Fujita Jp direct and am waiting for a response.

So if anybody would like to take them and get them re-gassed they are welcome to them at the discounted price of £620. It should only cost around $50 to get them re-gassed as its only £30 here. They are already in Syd and I sent them out on good faith so have not had any payment yet. All in all, its £800 worth of suspension that I have sitting on the other side of the world.

I would require payment via my Aus Westpac account after they have been confirmed to be in fully working order. However when you collect them from Alan a security deposit of £300 will be required and Alan will hold the deposit in Escrow until condition is determined. If they are found to be defective the deposit will be returned.

I think this is the best way for me to proceed at this point because I still have another 3 months before I'm in Aus to deal with this and really need the money in order to ship my car.

yes, i have the coilovers still. was going to return to rix when he came to sydney.
i dont know the technicals of the coilovers but was told they needed to be rebuilt. however, the guys were telling me even a gas shock = oil + tube.. so it could very much be i was given wrong info and they could be easily fixed.

pickup can be arranged from me if sold. payment to rix obviously

were they air freighted?

if so, the low pressure of the cargo hold at altitude probably caused them to leak during transit?

Yes bud they were. I did think that as being a possibility but ruled it out because I presumed that the hold is pressurised like the cabin.

If you look at the far left shock you can see the valve cap at the very bottom of the strut. This valve is how you can increase or decrease the gas, therefore increasing the pressure & the damping according to your desired needs.

highly unlikely considering the pressures any shockie has to contend with, an aircraft cargo hold is pressurised to 8000ft, so is the cabin. That's a compromise between what is comfortably breathable, aircraft structural integrity, explosive decompression etc.

I have just had this reply from Feed...

"Yes we sometime have the same problem so it probably seems this is a common fault. They will defiantely need regassing. Its not a difficult or costly process but i would recommend getting them fully serviced. Excellent coilovers though so definately worth it."

At least its some extra reassurance from the manufacturer

if they know ti's a 'common faulth' they should offer some kind of aftersale service for it. or at least provide a free seal kit or something so people can have them reworked locally. Japan ain't Aus, US or Europe for that matter...

not to bring your parts down man, just from an OEM/business point of view

Hmmm 12 to 18kg is what I have now, and I'm looking for something a bit softer

I totally agree with you bud, but then again these are old coilovers. They were probably serviced under the warranty within the first year after sale.

Seals will invariably be stocked by hydraulic outlets.....one of the local rebuilders, sources them that way for unsupported shocks. Usual stumbling blocks are special tools...pin spanners, etc, requiring fabrication....and most don't want that headache if they're likely going to do only a handful.

A nitrogen charge for a few bucks should tell if the floating seals have failed or whether someone's taken dangerous goods to heart. By coincidence, there's a couple of second-hand recharge pieces floating around at the moment for not a lot of dosh.

if you are unsure for the spring rates. The hks Hipermax suspension is 12kg and 10kg front and rear respectively. i suspect they are the same

as for the airplane pressure whatever... i took my suspension on the plane and there was no issues with them so i thought this would be a reason for gas leaking

Got these back yesterday. Not really sure what to make of it. The seals seem to be fine and the pressure was ok when I tested the shocks. I'll be getting them checked out some time in the next week or so. Meantime I emailed HKS to ask for advice. Still for sale if anybody is interested.

So I just had a lengthy convo with a suspension specialist here in Syd. All I did was explain the symptoms and he said "They defo just sound like they need re-gassing to me mate, bring them down and we'll chuck them on the dyno to test them and gas them up for you. If the rebound is consistant and the shaft is not staying down after it is pushed they are not dead."

I'm gonna try and go down to get them checked tomorrow. :wollnod:

I spent a few hours at Heasmans yesterday getting the suspension checked out. They checked the gas pressure which were all around 100psi and then threw one on the dyno. It looked as though the rebound was non-existant so I had them pull it apart to see what the issue was.

They checked it over and found that they were set to FULL hard causing them to stiffen up and lock up. Probably cause they aint been used in over a year. Anyway they replaced the seal and replaced the fluids inside. Now all working perrrfectly.

I could only afford to get the one shock checked over atm but these will be now be sold as refurbed suspension with dyno graphs to prove.

NEW PRICE TO REFLECT REFURB $1600 shipped
