hi guys,

Basic Specs:

2001 FD RX-7
RZ model (1 of only 175 ever made)
34,000kms
2,000kms on brand new motor and clutch
All factory RZ parts still fitted.
Special RZ Pearl White colour (limited to the RZ models)
Factory RZ Carbon Kevlar Recaro seats
Excellent condition inside and out
NSW Rego
Owned and Garaged in Sydney CBD and only driven probably 2 weekends a month.

It's time to end my rotor project and move on to something new.

I bought this FD RX-7 RZ model in japan about a year ago. I had just finished an R32 GTR build and was looking for something special. This RZ came up at auction with just 30,000kms and was in great condition apart from the engine which was low on compression. This suited me perfectly as I wanted a bit of a project. With that in mind I was able to buy it for a reasonable price, and then spent around $10K having a brand new engine built for it at Pre-Stage in Japan. A highly regarded rotor specialist in Japan. the build included brand new factory housings that have received a very mild "street port" port job at pre-stage. It keeps the factory nature of the engine but a little more torque and power. I also installed a brand new clutch. The engine was built, tuned and run-in at their workshop in japan and then the car was shipped here. Since I've had it it's done very minimarl kms and has had 2 oil changes to keep it healthy. The body is in great condition as is the interior. It has all the original RZ bits, passenger footrest, RZ dials, pedals, build plate, BBS wheels, Recaro Carbon Kevlar seats (with wear on the driver seat) and the Nardi steering wheel and factory RZ bilsteins.

It drives and handles like a new car. It's an exciting car to drive even at sane speeds.

The only modifications to the car are a Ultra turbo timer/meter which displays speed, peak speed, boost, peak boost, and revs and peak revs and of course acts as a turbo timer. It also has a japanese stainless cat back exhaust which give the car a great note. It sounds beautiful. It also has a Greddy front strut brace. Apart from those minor mods it's all factory standard, and all the original RZ parts have been left alone.

If you are after an unmolested RZ this is the one to get, as with the brand new jap built engine it should live a decent happy life.

I also bought a set of new side step garnishes for it as the original ones looked a bit average.

The car is registered in NSW and fully insured and has brand new Khumo ecsta tyres that I fitted all round when the car arrived in aus. They measure 255/45/17 rear and 235/45/17 front and are streets ahead of the rubbish most people fit during compliance etc.

The car is available for viewing in the sydney CBD where it's garaged always.

Since owning the car I also had the front lip restored back to the original factory grey look as it was ordered colour coded as a dealer option when new.

I have loved the RX7 and found when I bought it I immediately stopped driving my R34 GTR and silvia in favour of the RZ. It's just so much fun to punt around in. The only car that got me out of it was when my R35 GTR arrived!

It's now time for me to get back to another R32 GTR project so I really need to sell my baby. I've spent a lot of time and money on it so hopefully it will go to a good home. :)

I'm asking $42,000 for it which I think compared to the other RZ models on carsales is a bargain considering the brand new engine in it and the fact that mine has ALL the factory RZ parts still intact.

I don't really have any good pics, but these will give you an idea. To see how good it looks you really need to come check it out in person. It's a stunning car to see and hear. :)

please contact me, Richard, via pm if you are interested.

PS, sorry the photos really are crap but it's not easy to get good photos in a carpark! I will try to get some better ones this weekend. Half of these were taken in my garage, and the others were taken literally just after it got off the boat so it was a bit dirty. :(

thanks guys. it wont be the same without the FD around, but I will still stay a member here and will definitely have another 7 at some point. I might even go a bit old school and try an FC, though the FDs are so much better i would probably be a bit disappointed with the FC.

I took some better pics on the weekend. Will upload and post them in a minute.

Nice FD, G/L with sale.

Where's the "old" motor?

Gonna sell it as an overhaul project?

I had all the work done on the car in japan at pre-stage. I let them keep all the old bits.

here are the pics of the engine build in japan. :) as you can see there were a lot of new parts that went into this build. over $10K worth plus the labour etc. In aus it would have been even more expensive. but they did a great job and the car runs superbly.

man I just had a shock. I just had a look at some of the RZs and spirit Rs around for sale at the moment and some of them are crazy money. upwards of $50,000 even $60K and that is still with the original 7 year old 'time bomb' engine in them. hmm maybe I should put the price up! lol.

The RZ's will sell eventually at those prices, the Spirit R's of course won't....hahaha.

Great that you've still got all the documentation, that's a real bonus IMO.

Good luck with the sale :).

Top end cars with low k's still sell for upwards of 3M yen.

That's well north of $50K on the road here.

contrary to popular opinion premium fuel in japan is about on par with Aus 98RON, it's a touch higher octane but not enough to cause any problems. basically their regular fuel is about on par with our 95. their premium with our 98 RON. and their top level fuel is around 100RON. but most modern cars are tuned to accomodate varying fuel quality. It's not agressively tuned either. as it's basically still standard. it was just run in on the dyno and then just a little clean up, nothing drastic. :)

could be me on liverpool st, I do go there quite a bit to eat. my place is just a few blocks from there but I do take the car a bit as an excuse to get out in it. :)

closer to $30K-$35K or so. I'm not selling this at a profit! there is only so much you can ask for a car no matter what it cost you. with the way the current used car market is and the economy in general in most cases it's cheaper to buy a car here in aus than to import.

yeah that's true. but there is only so much the market will bare. for me to import another R35 GTR now it would cost around $220,000 on road, but there is no way I could sell it for that. I'll loose some $ on this RX7 but I had fun with the project and I paid for the car when the AUD was still 100yen/dollar so it's not as expensive as buying one now at 70yen/dollar. the new owner can get the benefit of my good buying. :)

in other news I just did a silly thing and bought stuff for a car I'm selling. some nice little CF bits. pics when they arrive. :)

Car is now up on carsales. I would still rather sell it to another enthusiast on here, so I'll call it $40,500 for anyone who contacts me through the forum.

There are only two other RZs on carsales. both are 2000 models (mine is 2001)

one of them is $60,000 and is not that flash. the other is $35,000 but is missing the RZ seats (around $10,000 to replace so that's $45,000 already) and is missing the original front bar, and has other aftermarket body panels which suggests some accident history. either way lots of the stuff that makes it an RZ is gone so it's not really collectible any more. Mine on the other hand has ALL the RZ parts, also has a brand new factory engine and has only 34,000kms! so I think price wise it's pretty fair. I could not buy, and import this car now for less than about $60,000. I need to sell though as I'm currently selling an apartment too and I need to liquify as much of my assets as I can. so come and take advantage of me! lol.
