Hi everyone,

Thanks to a 'friend', my 2000 FD has been written off as an uneconomical repair. :(

I am wondering if anyone on here would like to purchase the car complete. I don't really have the time or inclination right now to part it out. The main damage is around the lower front area where it hit an embankment.

Engine/driveline is still mint, car runs and drives but the steering rack is bent and it won't track straight. Chassis has been checked and the rails are still straight.

This could be a perfect start for a race car for someone as to get it road registered again, it'll require a full SA Regency inspection and i'm not prepared to go down the path.

Those who know the car will know it was maintained fastidiously by myself and only the best products used in/on it.

I will send photos of the damage to interested parties, so if interested, please PM me or ring 0400 110 678 :(

Cheers guys.

Graham

I've never let anyone drive my cars. My dad's a mechanic and I don't even let him drive it.

Really sorry to hear that. I hope your friend made an honest mistake, but from the way you have put it I suspect he was just being a tool.

Keep your chin up, you'll be okay.

Sad to hear it mate, there are very few people I let drive my cars for this exact reason.

I hope you can find a replacement car even if you don't feel like looking for one now.

Sorry to hear mate, such a shame. Hope your friend is repaying you.

If you decide to part it out, please let me know.

Real sorry to hear... Gutted for you.

How much does it cost to buy back a write off? Assume its based off the highest purchase price they can get?

I am so very sad to hear that you won't be trying to get it back on the road.
Would have been Good when You, Iggy & I had all our cars going and we could
have gone for a hills run but that is the way it goes.

As for letting people drive your car i think it's fine as long as they understand, that
as soon as they get behind the wheel, the car is theirs, any damage they cause is theirs to fix.

I actually gave my car to Graham (essdub) a year or so a go. Told him to have
fun as i remember, because i trusted that he won't be a idiot and respected my vehicle.
This has been proven many times. In saying that i have had people drive my car
that will not do so again, so it works both ways.

I can definitely vouch that he really looked after the car.

I'd expect tie rods to be more likely bent than the rack, bad luck.

That's awful Graham, sorry to hear it.

In your time of pain I don't want to 'twist the knife' as it were, however forum rules request photos for FS threads.

If you could post some photos that would be great, but if you are unwilling, I totally understand.

Seriously, take it home, get your spanners out, and start pulling stuff off..

If the rails are straight as you say, that looks totally fixable...

It looks like most of the damage on yours is the front bar and reo / lower lip. Which is not a big deal.

Pull the bumper and reo off and see if the metal chassis and front box is damaged in anyway.

If the rest of your cars paint is in good condition (and being black it should be easy to match) then if you're willing to source some parts second hand like fenders, bumper / reo etc.. it shouldn't be too expensive.

But definitely get a second opinion from a body shop on what it would cost. Lots of little things add up and there is always going to be stuff you won't account for etc..

I went through all that hassle of fixing mine, but that was because when I lived in Ireland there was less than 20 FDs still on the road and most of them were 'farked' in 1 way or another.

If you always wanted a limited edition RZ or Spirit R or similar, then perhaps take the payout and save a bit of cash and get what you always wanted. But if you're attached to this car fix it. No reason it can't be as good as new.

Sorry to hear about your situation mate.

I agree, it looks repairable without too many dramas but like others said, strip back before you make the call so you can see exactly what's bend / buggered.

FWIW, I have a few parts that I'm happy to supply you at cheap prices if you decide to repair it, such as:

Control arms
Front subframe
Oil coolers
Brake ducts
Sway bar
Front X member

The front bar, lip and reo will be expensive and very hard to come by secondhand (A/C condenser not too bad), there are always guys chasing good clean secondhand ones of those.

Wish you all the best, whatever you decide to do mate. Must hurt a lot to see your baby all bent up (especially when it wasn't your fault).

If you are going to fix it, it might be worth getting the chassis checked to make sure it is still straight. Depends on the speed and angle of the impact I guess.

A mate of mine had a similar sized front-ender and even when it was fixed he told me that the car never felt quite the same. He ended up hating the car because of it.

If it's out of straight only slightly you can put her on a chassis jig to get her spot on again.

Although I don't agree with the way they painted it Black, the TV show Fast n' Load (Grease Monkey Garage) restored an F40 Ferrari that was bent like a banana using a high end jig.

There is an episode of it floating around, but Youtube took it down.

Your car will not be bent like that.

I guess it depends who you take it to and how much you want to keep your car.
