That doesn't explain anything. Are you saying that V8 conversions to JDM FD's can't be registered in QLD?

Yep car has to be a Australian delivered vehicle otherwise it wont comply for a conversion to LS3 and yes it wont be able to be registered .

If I recall correctly, the Australian ones are heavier so you can put the larger 6.2l LS3 into them.

JDM ones are limited to LS1 or LS2s as a result of their lighter weight.

Even tough this could be the case its easy enough to change the internals cams etc from a LS1, LS2 to produce way more power than a Stock LS3 me thinks .

Don't bother with QT just phone a private vehicle certifier before I did mine I phoned he asked me the weight and told me not a problem. I originally was going for the LS1 but when he told me I could go up to 6.1 litres naturally aspirated I was sold on an LS2. Put a small cam in and you have over 300kw of tyre melting fun with economy and reliability. (Mine is a personal import)

Affirmative, the average queensland transport employee has no idea of the law or what is allowed.
I always tell them as little as possible to avoid unneccessary dramas, much better to talk to the guy whos gonna approve the mods on your car.
My car is aus delivered and i possibly would have sold it to you until very recently but due to outlaying a bit more money I now feel committed,

Yes, it's a free ticket to unlimited mods, but I believe that ticket is only valid at the original compliance.

Ie. It would have to have V8 in it from Japan/offshore and the initial compliance paperwork noted as such.
