I thought that you couldnt bring in accident damaged (grade R) cars.
Thats what I thought when I was looking to bring one in, that the car would have to be returned to japan if it failed inspection here or may end up in the crusher.
    Can anyone elaborate ?
How was he able to bring in a grade R car ?

Because he works for mazda, thats why they call him mazda marcus lol.

On a serious note, you are able to do this by being super friendly with your compliance guy. Just get him to comply your car, its as easy as that... of course you would want to hide the damage as much as you can... so whos got all the spare parts?

As I've said before compliance is just a formality, it's basically a paperwork signing exercise. They couldn't tell me what they changed on my car, and as far as I can see nothing on it changed....

I am not sure about JOC but other sites offer history checks that would uncover skullduggery that Marcus is fond of...

I don't think minor damage should be an issue, obviously write off's should be. What is dishonest is that Marcus is not presenting the car as an accident repaired vehicle, he is presenting it as a mint 'original' car.

My car was damaged lightly at the front after it was stolen, it was repaired and I have no problem with that (I know that some may be off-put) but the car he is selling could be good. It's just his methods that are dishonest and he can't be trusted. He's fudged VIN numbers before etc..

I thought I would chip in on the Spirit R. Accident damage cars are not always write-off cars. They are often cars that have had a panel or two replaced. This is listed on the cars shakken by the dealer during repair so owners are forced to acknowledge that there has been panels removed to disclose history of the car.

Cars with a RA, A1, 01, represent very low accident damage - one or two panels.

You cant import cars with structural damage.

Some grade 3.5 and lower have accident damage also.

Fair point and I have no problem with minor panel damage and replacement, my own car has had such repairs.

I'm sorry, but I'm like this black reporter I just can't stop laughing.....

To quote Kristian Appelt from here:
    http://www.motoring.com.au/news/2015...new-cars-50554

Appelt does worry that some agents in Australia can be less than scrupulous, and try to "slip stuff through," prompting him to express the view that the current legislation "lacks teeth" and the moral-free importers should "get clobbered".

"They tread heavily and carry a small stick," he observed of the regulators based in Canberra. An agent who repeatedly abuses the process should have their licence to import vehicles rescinded.
