Has been going through a few of the auction halls for around 6 months. Paint isn't great I'm told, decent looking car otherwise.

Funny how all these "seconds" end up with dealers who tout them as mint.
Makes you wonder..
I'm living near this dealer so might go have a look..
As is typical of so many dealers, they advertise cars that are not in stock - but use them as bait.
I saw the same car and photos today here.

So it's actually being sold by dealer GTNET

I've seen similar behavior before from a the old Edward Lee's on Parramatta Rd. Make of it what you will..
Hey Guys,
I'm potentially going to fly to Melbourne to look at a Type R Bathurst R. The seller has provided some pics of the auction sheet (not the entire sheet). Does anything seem out of the ordinary?
https://www.carsales.com.au/private/...SSE-AD-5331129
Ask him to send the full sheet because you’d want to see if any of the body panels have been marked as being repaired or replaced. 4 grade cars can still have “cosmetic repairs”.
Also do a compression test for piece of mind
having a v8 in an fd is like opening a playboy magazine and seeing some bloke pulling his cock..it just isn't supposed to be there.
Spirit R just popped up on Carsales today
https://www.carsales.com.au/private/...SSE-AD-4498388
Reasonably priced Spirit R depending on condition of motor , gearbox etc etc , otherwise be ready to spend more $$$$$ .

That Spirit R in Victoria looks like one that was up on Carsales about 18 months ago for $42,000. I thought it had sold, but perhaps it was just pulled from sale. I'm seriously skeptical about whether anyone is actually buying them at this price point. I remember one of the guys here had the Innocent Blue with 20,000km on the clock. That was worth the premium IMO, but not sure about the others. There's a black one in NSW that's been advertised for 2 years and the asking price just keeps on going up. Up to $72,000 now.
Yeh the pricing for Spirit R and RZ models in definitely inflated. There are even Type R models being advertised for close on 50k on Carsales. Sellers are dreaming and just hoping to snatch a buyer with money to burn.
I offered a seller 48k for a Spirit R in decent condition. His reply was he could get 60k all day for the car. The car is still for sale 4 months later!
FYI for any potential buyers or even Gomez if he wants to update his records (if he still keeps them).
I have been in talks with the owner of that Spirit R today (link above). He has been very upfront and honest about information on the car.
He is the first owner in Australia but unfortunately he purchased it from our good friends at All Imports on Parramatta Rd.
He has shown me all the documentation and it has had a haircut of at least 50,000km. Odometer currently reads 55,595 (35,028 when imported in 03/11). Japan deregistration paperwork shows 86,200km on 07/09 and 60,100km on 06/07.
The owner believes the the odometer should read around the 105k mark, but based on the history and timeline, it may have done closer to 130k.
It would be interesting to see the actual auction sheet if anybody has it.
Currently most collectable cars values are inflated , I believe in comparison to other cars prices the FD RX7 represent great value

I agree FD still represents great value. I don't see them sliding much either. Even in a market correction. Just look on YouTube lots of young kids want 1 badly. They are highly desirable. Lots of build videos and people talking about how rare they are etc..
Spirit R and Type RZ will hold their values long term if you can resist modification.
All R32-R33 and R34 Skylines are crazy in values also. NSX through the roof. FDs still cheap relatively speaking.
The other thing to keep in mind is that a lot of folks asking prices reflect the costs of replacement if you were to import a car from Japan today.
With the Yen vs AUD and the costs of import (at least $8k on top of purchase price) you're seeing that reflected in today's asking prices (as FDs have gone up, along with other 90s Japanese classics).
Go onto Goo Net in Japan.
http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/php/...ord_search.php
Type in "FD3S" and you'll see all the FDs for sale. You cannot buy the cheaper Version 1-4 cars because they are ineligible for import (road registration). So you're looking at Version 5-6 cars which carry a Premium in Japan.
Cheapest end of the market for a Type A Spirit R is around high $40's...
http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/used...003/index.html
http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/used...001/index.html
Both are modified..
Up the higher end you're looking at $60k + before import costs etc..
http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/used...002/index.html
$96k for this 1 with 5,000km's on it.
http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/used...001/index.html
Add the costs of import on top and you're looking at similar prices to what's being asked locally really.. I personally would look at local cars myself. But if you absolutely must have a low km's example you'll pay a premium for sure.
Gav The 5,000 + km Spirit R Type A would most likely need a possible Engine update anyway as the parts could have been compromised over the time because of lack of use , causing all sort of problems .

Very true, watched a video last night about a guy in the UK who daily drives a Ferrari 360. It was modified to Stradale spec too. Him and the host Matt Farah both agreed the high mileage Ferraris always run better than the ones with no miles on them.
Gotta do the old Italian engine run in process on them to make those engine seal better

Possibly yes, personally I would be happy buying a slightly modified Spirit R/RZ with a few km's on it and reversing some of the mods and putting it back to stock. I get a perverse satisfaction out of putting things back how they should be.
A little bit of patina adds to the charm and as much as I like time capsule cars. What is the point if you feel guilty driving it?
Could be a cheap RZ.
http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/used...002/index.html
Sell off the mods and revert to stock.. still cost a small fortune by the time all is said and done though.
