    Default Aftermarket Intake

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to see what intakes are there for sale for stock twins or if someone could point me in the right direction for a new one even?

I currently have and ARC box but the top filter is starting deteriorate so was considering buying a new setup just because I wanted something maybe better.

Not sure what would fit. Currently has ARC box + Trust SMIC.

    Thanks.

You can put a K&N filter in the ARC box (or at least I did) but it's super tight and not a great fit if I'm honest.

Hahah really? I tried calling Bursons and they have nothing in that size. Would you know the part number? I guess it'd be better to squeeze it in if it's not going to damage the ARC box since it'd be a new filter and not this old one.

It's not nearly as good a fit as described here:
    http://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generatio...-maybe-479959/

    k&n part number is 33-2119

I would prefer a genuine ARC filter in red but couldn't find them anywhere... So I've got this installed for now. It's not ideal, but far better than the old filter which was starting to deteriorate.

You can see the filter is a bit squished in there, but it will do the job. I should really polish my box (that's what she said).

I bought original ARC filters from RHDJapan before the massive website change. Perhaps you can ask them if you cannot find them? Were around $100 each and you need two.

I've seen pipercross sheet filter material around, it's red and less coarse than ARC - maybe they have something?

Have a nice large single HKS mushroom here for twins if you're interested. Comes complete, ready to bolt on. Can do it very cheap. I would probably make an additional heat shield depending on rad/IC setup to get the full benefit. PM me if you'd like pics or to discuss price if interested.

You will need 2 panel filters (1 for bottom and top of airbox) and then add in shipping + RHD tax and it's an expensive air filter...

If you have the cash there is a genuine SP intake on ebay.

Blech...heap of money for an intake with less intake flow than a stock s8 airbox with a cheap bastard mod...

of course, the ARC hot air intake system isnt great either imho...

How do you know the S8 airbox flows better than the SP intake? Have you tested both back to back on a dyno? Not having a go, just curious how you have come to this conclusion?

The ARC box does have an open panel at the bottom of the box which could soak in hot air and the fact it's an alloy box (and not carbon) means it will retain more heat than plastic or carbon boxes.

However I've thought about making some form of heat shield underneath it to prevent hot air from the radiator finding it's way into the intake. Similar to the cheap bastard intake method.

I do like the AutoExe set up though!

What a lot of people don't realise is that the S8 airbox has an air-guide that takes air in from the back of the bumper (behind the license plate) - provided you have a series 8 reo though... which sadly I don't.

    Simple deduction...

SP air intake snorkel..at its smallest point has less diameter than the intake of the s8 stock intake...supposedly offers ram air pressure..but it picks up from a low pressure point behind the s6/s8 bumper (Different on the SP...but still prob only mild pressure increase, and not enough to overcome the small size)...

It also has shit build quality..Pollack really did a SHIT job on the carbon fibre..rough edges, flimsy uneven weave, uneven surfaces...

Add the cheap bastard mod to the stock s8 box, and its a better unit imho...

Note, I didnt mention the s6 box..which is almost identical..except for the intake duct on it..it can have reversion issues through the intercooler..(Can be fixed with some duct tape, but the intercooler then gets nothing lol)

Remember the SP was built on a rushed project, with very limited budget in 1996....MANY better designs were made on better budgets since then by many other people / companies...
