Looking for an Aftermarket upgrade SMIC. Looking to retain the battery and airbox if possible.

Re: Aftermarket SMIC
if you can find still blitz smic works decent enough, all fits in the same oem position hardly any mods to retain its surroundings including the air box and battery.. even on warm/hot day if the car is driving through on the hot days you will keep between 50-68 degrees sitting in traffic they do stuff all these smic but once you start driving it works well enough for the twin turbo system..
There are other options to use in regards to smic systems but thats my experience with that cooler system..
intake temps will always vary with these cooler system after all there in the engine bay hottest part for air flow

Re: Aftermarket SMIC
yep, blitz, Greddy, ARC, RE, or the mazdaspeed one will do the job youre after.
there was a mazdaspeed cooler for sale on facebook not long ago. cant remember which group though
im using the Greddy, seems to be the most popular, although id highly recommend updating the intake duct to something like the petite cool charge 2 duct if the cooler you get doesn't already have a suitable duct

Re: Aftermarket SMIC
I'd be chasing a Trust one if you're set on a smic, thickest core of the lot I believe so should provide best cooling/ support more hp. Some of the others are almost the same size as factory so no real improvement.

Re: Aftermarket SMIC
Ric shaw sells one, needs the core sealed to the factory duct.

Re: Aftermarket SMIC
Not a fan of the "super gayhole restrictive U bend design" as it's known on the street , much rather a trust/greddy unit of larger core, conventional straight through design. Also several accounts of work not done, parts missing etc would convince me to shop elsewhere.

Re: Aftermarket SMIC
Can the trust greddy unit still be purchased new? I have tried looking but I could only find one on rx7.comand they say it's not available at this time

Re: Aftermarket SMIC
If you calculate the flow area relative to the charge pipes in the U type ones you won't be very concerned about shape factor.
